Privacy Policy

CarCatch ("CarCatch," "we," "us") makes an app that identifies cars from a photo and lets you build a collection of the cars you spot. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using CarCatch you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you sign in with Sign in with Apple, we receive a unique identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email (or Apple's private relay address). We use this to create and secure your account.
• Photos you capture. The photos you take or upload to identify and post a car. We detect and blur visible license plates before a photo is displayed in the feed.
• Location. If you grant permission, we attach an approximate location to a spot and use your location to surface nearby activity and optional "legendary nearby" alerts. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings.
• Usage and device data. Basic app interactions, device type, and diagnostic data we use to keep the service running and improve it.
• Purchases. When you buy photo packs or other items, Apple processes the payment. We receive a confirmation of the purchase from Apple — we do not receive your card or payment details.

How we use your information

• To identify the vehicle in your photo and show you the result.
• To power your collection, the feed, challenges, leaderboards, and leagues.
• To send notifications you have opted into (such as nearby-legendary or streak reminders).
• To enforce quotas, prevent abuse, and keep the service secure.
• To diagnose problems and improve the app and our identification quality.

Vehicle identification

To name the car in your photo, we send the image to our AI identification provider (Anthropic) to analyze it and return a result. The image is processed to generate the identification and is not used by that provider to train its models.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers who help us operate the app, under contracts that limit their use of it:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and photo storage hosting.
• Anthropic — AI vehicle identification (as described above).
• Apple — sign-in, in-app purchases, and push notification delivery.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

Data retention

We keep your account and the spots you post for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information and your posted content, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.

Your choices and rights

• Manage location and notification permissions in your device settings at any time.
• Delete a spot you posted from within the app.
• Delete your account, which removes your profile and associated content.
• Request a copy of your data, or ask questions about this policy, by contacting us below.

Security

We use industry-standard measures — encrypted transport, access controls, and row-level security — to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

CarCatch is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the effective date above. Material changes may also be surfaced in the app.
